Fisher-Price Deluxe Kick ‘n Play Piano Gym Review

If you have a new baby, you are probably looking for a way to get them crawling and moving. A baby mat would be a great option for this. If you do some shopping, you’ll notice there are a lot of different baby mats on the market. Here is why the Fisher-Price Deluxe Kick n Play Piano Gym is for you.

This was our first baby mat. We got another when our second child was born but we ended up keeping this one because it was so good. Let’s go into the aspects that make this interactive baby mat so good that we kept it for two kids.

Parts and Construction

Fisher price did a great job keeping the construction of this baby mat very easy. No tools needed for me other than maybe a screwdriver for the batteries. Set aside about 10 to 15 minutes of assembly time for this.

The piano unit connects to the plastic base of the mat. What’s great about the connection of the piano is that it is connected to big plastic screws to change the position of the piano from vertical to horizontal. I’ll go into detail about this feature later.

Now you can actually connect the mat to the base. Once that is completed, you can decide if you want to put the arch on or put the hanging toys on the arch before you put the arch on. The arch goes on very easily because each end fits easily in each of those big holes. Very easy to insert and remove when needed.

You are just about ready to let your little one play with their new mat. Just don’t forget the batteries needed to play with the piano unit. After this, you should be ready to go. Set the volume to a suitable setting and let your little one play.

How it Plays

The Fisher-Price Deluxe Kick n Play Piano Gym works just like the majority of other baby mats. Baby can move and play with the hanging toys as every other mat. The thing that makes this different than other baby mats is the piano attachment.

The piano attachment grows with your child. As a baby, putting the piano in the vertical position allows your baby to kick the piano keys. This plays sounds which your baby will enjoy.

Once your baby is a bit older, you can reposition the piano to a horizontal position. To change into this position, all you need to do is loosen the big screws and turn the piano horizontally flat. This will allow your child to sit up and “play” the piano with their hands. This is a great transition from the baby mode that your child was used to.

The piano has a couple of different settings. You can set it to play single notes or set it to play full songs once a key is hit. We usually only put the piano on the full song setting. Our kids seemed to like it better if they heard full songs playing after hitting a note.

Cleanup and Storage

To be honest, we never really put away the Fisher-Price Deluxe Kick n Play Piano Gym when my kids were super little. We just kinda kept it out for our kids to crawl on and play with until they got older. Since we had kids 3 years apart, we have kept the Fisher-Price Deluxe Kick n Play Piano Gym out for quite awhile.

There was a time, though, when our kids became to old for the mat and it was time to put this in storage. Putting this away was easy enough. Just undo the mat, unscrew the piano attachment, and pull up Each side the arch. Fold the items and find a suitable spot in a closet or somewhere similar.

All in all, the Fisher-Price Deluxe Kick n Play Piano Gym was easy to store away when not in use.
